How To Clean Your Lead Apron
Soil and Water-Soluble Stains:
Clean using a solution of a mild household dishwashing detergent/ soap diluted in cold water. Clean stains or entire garment one section at a time (10”x10”). Apply solution to stain using a soft bristled brush in a circular motion. Blot with a clean cloth. Apply clean water and blot again. Repeat until all soap residue is removed.
We also recommend the use of Scrubbles Lead Apron Cleaner to remove soil and stains such as barium, blood, and other common radiology-related stains. To successfully disinfect the surface the CDC recommends the “use of friction” to first clean the surface. Spray a small area and scrub in a circular motion using a soft bristled brush. Wipe with a soft cloth.
Current research indicates that cleaning the apron before disinfection with wipes will prevent the build up of biofilm. Using wipes alone will not effectively remove surface biofilm. Soil must first be removed before disinfection/sanitation can take place.
Disinfection:
Lead apron surfaces can be disinfected using non-abrasive, non-alcoholic, non petroleum-based cleansing wipes containing no bleach such as Clorox Healthcare Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfecting Wipes , Ecolab, Cavi Wipes, or Sanicloth. Scrub small area of apron with the wipe using a circular overlapping motion. Continue until you have wiped down the entire apron. Do not saturate.
After any cleaning procedure hang apron to air dry thoroughly.
